Dollars and Sense
If you are going to make dollars, then you've got to have sense - basic bookkeeping sense that is!
Attend this hands-on workshop to learn generally accepted accounting terminology, manual bookkeeping processes and skills so that you can better manage your business and your money. Whether you are using accounting software, have a bookkeeper or use a general ledger to track your business transactions, this workshop is for you!
This workshop will:
• Introduce bookkeeping and accounting terminology
• Walk you through the accounting cycle of a typical small business
• Help you to identify the types of information that needs to be recorded in your bookkeeping system; including where to record it and when to record it
• Show you how to enter the day-to-day transactions of a typical business into a manual bookkeeping system
• Introduce common business financial statements (income statements & balance sheets) and help you to identify the valuable information they can provide to you as a business owner.
Make sure you bring a pencil and calculator to this workshop!
SEB Orientation
The Self-Employment Benefits (SEB) Program is a training program for individuals that are unemployed and receiving Employment Insurance or have received Employment Insurance in the past 3 years (5 years for a parental leave).
If you are interested in participating in the SEB Program, please refer to the Information Centre on our website to learn more about SEB and its application process.
Please Note: Only individuals who have visited a career resource centre and obtained a referral from a case manager there can attend the SEB Orientation.

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Tax Information Session
Canada has some of the world’s most respected business practices. The Canadian Revenue Agency is a leading regulatory body that contributes to establishing and maintaining these standards.
This information session is a must-attend for new entrepreneurs, to gain insight and clarity into the CRA reporting process.
This workshop will:
• Introduce you to the Goods and Services Tax and how to complete your HST return
• Provide guidelines for reporting income for your unincorporated business and claiming expenses
• Review proper payroll structure and applicable deductions
• Introduce you to the CRA’s business e-services and My Business Account

This 2-hour information session walks aspiring entrepreneurs through the basic how-tos and next steps to opening a business. You will walk away with the tools and resources you need to make your business idea a reality.
This workshop will:
- Introduce you to easy-to-use templates for business planning and financial forecasting.
- Share sources of small business financing.
- Provide information about local resources and services for entrepreneurs.
